Mekar is a Canadian skincare company that popped onto my radar a few months ago when they were having a sale on Beyond the Rack. I jumped on the opportunity to test out a new natural and organic skincare line. Their products are color coded for four different categories based on your skincare needs. Since I have sensitive skin, I chose to test out the correct and purify products.
Correct - Acne, redness, oily skin
Hydrate - Dry, mature skin
Purify - Cleanse, tone, and exfoliate
Revive - All skin types
Velvet Cleanser - 120 ml
The Velvet Cleanser is extremely gentle as it is enriched with aloe vera and lavender. This cleanser has a milk like consistency that will sooth your skin. I found this cleanser to be hydrating and of course soothing. It really works well for keeping your skin supple during the dry winter months. I love that this cleanser also has a great ingredient list, my only complaint is that water is the first ingredient:
Aqua, Propanediol (from corn, EcoCert approved), Glyceryl Stearate SE, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract*, Glycerin, Cetyl Betaine, Disodium Cocoamphodiacetate, Stearic Acid, Cetyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Caprylate (and) Glyceryl Undecylenate, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Allantoin, Glycolic Acid, Panthenol, Limnanthes alba (Meadow foam) Seed Oil, Moringa Oil (and)Hydrogenated Moringa Oil Esters, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Flower Oil*, Citrus Aurantium Amara (Orange) Leaf Oil*, Litsea Cubeba (May Chang) Fruit Oil*, Citric Acid
* Certified organic ingredient
Cleansing Tonic Water - 120 ml
The Cleansing Tonic Water happens to be one of my favorite products by Mekar. The use of essential oils reminds me of the Yon-ka toner. This toner just happens to be at a much better price. It is gentle, soothing, and does a great job at taking off excess makeup. Here is the ingredient list:
Aqua, Propanediol (from corn, EcoCert approved), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract*, Pelargonium Graveolens (Rose Geranium) Flower Water, Manganese Gluconate, Pentylene Glycol (from sugar cane, EcoCert approved), Polyglyceryl-10 Laurate, Glyceryl Caprylate (and) Glyceryl Undecylenate, Allantoin, Panthenol, Citrus Aurantium Amara (Orange) Leaf Oil*, Sodium Hyaluronate, Sodium Phytate, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Flower Oil* Citric Acid
* Certified organic ingredient
This product is definitely something that I will repurchase again.
Corrective Balancing Serum - 15 ml
The Corrective Balancing Serum is a gel-like serum that is supposed to reduce redness and blemishes. It is also used to control oil. Unfortunately this serum didn`t do much for my acne. I am going to continue using it to see if anything changes. I like that this serum doesn`t dry out my skin and still has the same soothing qualities of the velvet cleanser and toner. Here are the full list of ingredients for the serum:
Aqua, Propanediol (from corn, EcoCert approved), Helichrysum Italicum Flower Water, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract*, Pentylene Glycol (from sugar cane, EcoCert approved), Water (Aqua), Glycerin, Beta-Glucan, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Glyceryl Caprylate (and) Glyceryl Undecylenate, Polyglyceryl-10 Laurate, Allantoin, Panthenol, Dehydroxantam Gum, Sodium Hyaluronate, Undecylenoyl Glycine, Capryloyl Glycine, Citrus Aurantium Amara (Orange) Leaf Oil*, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Flower Oil*, Sodium Phytate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Citric Acid
* Certified organic ingredient
Have you heard of Mekar? What are your thoughts on this new skincare brand?
The name of this brand caught my attention, really! In Indonesian language, we have 'mekar' in our vocabulary, and it means 'blooming'. I don't know where Mekar got the idea of naming their brand, but it feels good to see the name! :)
ReplyDeleteThat's really cool! I'm curious now to find out how they came up with their brand name. Maybe I will ask them!
DeleteThanks for commenting :)
